PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS There is nothing more thrilling than for students to be able to correlate a variety of phenomena with data that they can acquire online. Circle of Illumination Science Education is pleased to offer a number of professional development workshops (online and in person) from late May through August 2021 for public school districts and private/charter schools interested in deepening the science content mastery of their instructors These will include:
1. ELEMENTS of WEATHER I, Basic (Emphasis on ESS Benchmark 6E.220.127.116.11 for 6th grade teachers in Minnesota) in which teachers will gain deeper understanding of what happens over a "typical" day as well as the changes that may occur due to the movement of air masses. Emphasis will be on temperature, humidity, formation of clouds, development of precipitation, and changes in wind direction and speed. Will include use of a variety of maps and diagrams of meteorological data as well as ideas for hands-on activities. 4 hour workshop or two 2-hour webinars. 6 CEUs.
2. ELEMENTS of WEATHER II, Advanced. Emphasis same as basic course but in greater depth on the water cycle, how the data collected by "radiosondes", i.e., weather balloons, can be correlated with phenomena such as air pollution, and select aspects of severe weather forecasting. 8 CEUs.
