WORKSHOPS - continued
IS IT SLEET or IS IT SNOW?
In this intriguing workshop participants will sharpen their skills about
one of the most visible of weather's phenomena: precipitation. They will
also learn about the temperature profile of our atmosphere and get
hands-on with data that is collected by weather balloons, i.e.,
radiosondes, twice daily by weather stations across the U.S.
WHAT IS THE DEWPOINT AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
In this workshop participants will learn what the dewpoint temperature
is and why it is important in the study of weather and of the water cycle.
Participants will also get hands-on with a simple tool consisting of two
thermometers with which they can determine what the dewpoint is.
DATA VISUALIZATION in WEATHER USING REAL-TIME WEATHER WEB SITES
In this workshop participants will learn about the variety of ways in which meteorological data is visualized on maps and diagrams. For example the map to the left shows isobars, i.e., lines connecting points of equal atmospheric pressure, during Winter Storm Gerri in January 2024. This will enable them to take advantage of a wide variety of real-time weather web sites including those of the American Meteorological Society, NOAA's National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center (SPC), and the Wyoming Weather Web, among others.
